4/28 Recap | Pirates 4 Braves 2

The Pirates picked up a nice win today beating the Atlanta Braves, 4-2. Erik Bedard finally got the run support he needed and it resulted in him picking up his first win as a Pirate. The Pirates went through four bullpen pitchers tonight and Chris Resop was the only one to allow a run, which came in the sixth inning. Juan Cruz, Jason Grilli, and Joel Hanrahan all had scoreless outings, with the Hammer picking up his fourth save of the season. Erik Bedard only pitched five innings and was able to work himself out a huge jam in the fifth inning. The Pirates pitching staff finished the day with 14 strikeouts altogether.

Some early offense was brought to the plate today by the Pirates. Garrett Jones had a sacrifice fly in the first inning and Alex Presley and Jose Tabata each drove in runs in the second. Presley scored Rod Barajas (first run of the season) with a double and Tabata drove in Presley picking up his first RBI of the season. The other run for the Pirates came on a RBI double by Pedro Alvarez, which scored Neil Walker. The Bucs hit the ball hard tonight which resulted in five of their eight hits going for extra bases. Pedro Alvarez, Neil Walker, and Alex Presley all contributed multi-hit games.

The game ended on a fantastic catch at the wall by Jose Tabata which capped off Hanrahan's 1-2-3 inning. The Pirates play game three of this four game series tomorrow at 1:35 as the "Road Warrior" Kevin Correia faces off against Tim Hudson.
