4/14 Recap | Giants 4 Pirates 3

Things started well for the Pirates last night as they had a rare two-run inning to start off the game. Andrew McCutchen and Casey McGehee singled, Rod Barajas worked a work, and Neil Walker hit a sharp single into left field to give Charlie Morton a 2-0 lead heading into his first start of the season.

Barry Zito settled in after the tough first and threw three scoreless innings until giving up a run in the fifth on two errors. Morton looked alright in his first outing. He gave up a pair of runs in the second inning on three hits (all to left handed batters who filled the Giants lineup). Morton would throw zeroes up in the third and fourth before giving up a run in the fifth on a triple and a groundout. That's all the further Morton would pitch as he was pinch hit for in a big situation in the top of the sixth.

Both bullpens did a great job and the game stayed deadlocked at three until the bottom of the ninth when Chris Resop would give up two singles and then intentionally walk a batter before giving up the game winning run on a throwing error by Clint Barmes, who delivered the ball low to Rod Barajas who couldn't handle it as the winning run slid in behind him.

Another very frustrating one-run loss. The Pirates have lost five in a row and once again looked poor on offense. They collected seven hits off a largely unimpressive group of pitchers. Four more games to go in this road trip and it would be really nice for the Pirates to win at least one of them.
