4/16 Recap | Diamondbacks 5 Pirates 1

The Pirates dropped their sixth game of this road trip to the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 5-1 score.

Erik Bedard made his third start in a Pirates uniform, and lost his third game of the season. It's extremely tough seeing Bedard having a record of 0-3 but you have to take into consideration his run support in the three games he's pitched has been zero (Phillies), one (LAD), one (Arizona). He pitched five innings, gave up two runs on three hits, walked four and struck out three. He often got behind in the count tonight, which is something we haven't seen much at all in this short season. Evan Meek dealed the sixth inning and allowed a two run homerun to Chris Young, Young's fifth of the season. Chris Resop pitched the seventh and eighth and allowed a pinch hit solo homerun to Gerardo Parra on the first pitch of his outing settigg up a score of 5-1, which went on to stand as the final.

Guess what? The offense did nothing...again. The first inning looked good with Neil Walker picking up an RBI single, but the Pirates barely got anything going after that. Neil Walker, Andrew McCutchen, Casey McGehee, Erik Bedard, Rob Barajas and Alex Presley were the six Pirates to get a hit. The Pirates seemed to hit the ball hard off of Joe Saunders in the early innings, but the ball either died at the warning track or carried foul.

The Pirates saw another awful performance at the plate tonight and the pitching was mediocre as they let up almost as many homeruns as the Pirates have hit this year. Jeff Karstens is set to pitch tomorrow against the 20-game winner from a year ago, Ian Kennedy, with another late start at 9:40 PM.
