4/15 Recap | Pirates 4 Giants 1

The Pirates snapped their five game losing streak today against the San Francisco Giants, with a 4-1 victory.

Kevin Correia started the game and looked fantastic for the Pirates, picking up the win. The "road warrior" pitched six innings, giving up only one run on three hits, while striking out a pair. Correia has looked solid in his first two starts this season, with both being on the road and it was good to see him pick up the win today. Jared Hughes pitched the seventh inning and picked up the hold, despite letting up a leadoff double, which represented the tying run. Jason Grilli pitched a scoreless eighth and picked up a hold as well, despite putting the tying run at the plate twice. Joel Hanrahan came in for the save, and had a rough time closing it out. He did not allow any runs, but walked two batters, threw over thirty pitches, with almost as many balls as strikes. He was still able to pick up the save though which is a good sign.

Ryan Vogelsong got the nod for the Giants, and was credited with the loss, giving up a solo homerun to Garrett Jones and RBI single to Alex Presley in the second inning. The Pirates did not have a hit from the third to seventh inning, but picked up two key insurance runs in the top of the eighth. Andrew McCutchen and Casey McGehee both singled to lead off the inning and were both pushed across on nice bunts by Neil Walker and Josh Harrison.

It was nice to see the Pirates actually pick up a win on this roadtrip, after losing five straight games. Hopefully they can find a way to win a game or two against the defending National League West champion Arizona Diamondbacks as that series is set to start tomorrow at 9:40 PM, with Erik Bedard getting the start.
