4/22 Recap | Cardinals 5 Pirates 1

The Pirates had another horrible offensive showing on Sunday scoring just one run. Kyle Lohse was the starter for the Cardinals and kept his hot start to the 2012 going with seven scoreless innings. He threw 97 pitches in those innings and struck out five Pirates while allowing just six hits.

Michael McKenry and Casey McGehee provided the offense in the eighth inning with back-to-back hits. Jose Tabata also had two hits including a double. Nate McLouth and Neil Walker both went 1/4 as the Pirates left nine men on base. It was nothing new. The team scored just four runs in this series and is averaging a whopping two runs per game on the season. They have scored more than three runs just three times in 15 games. Luckily for them the pitching has been good enough to win them six of those games and they aren't off to a horrible start. They have faced some good pitching for sure, and Kyle Lohse has been incredible this season, but you would still like to see the team score more than what they are.

Erik Bedard was the loser once again today and he was been tagged with losses in his first four starts despite pitching pretty well. He gave up three runs in seven innings of work and has a 2.63 ERA on the season. Looks like he's the Paul Maholm of this team this year. Evan Meek gave up two runs in the ninth on three hits, he has a 6.43 ERA and hasn't been good this year.

You can take some consolation in the fact that he Pirates were playing the Cardinals who are one of the best teams in the league, but you don't like losing series at home regardless. The Rockies come to town for a three game set tomorrow. They are at 8-7 on the year and will probably be the worst team the Pirates have seen thus far, so it would surely be nice to see them win this series.
