4/24 Recap | Pirates 5 Rockies 4

The Pirates had a great victory today beating the Colorado Rockies 5-4. Kevin Correia started for the Pirates and faced off against the 49 year old Jamie Moyer.

Correia started the game and pitched six strong innings only allowing two runs. Juan Cruz threw a 1-2-3 inning, Jason Grilli pitched two/thirds of an inning allowing one earned run. Tony Watson blew the game for the Pirates in the eighth inning allowing a two run homerun (second of the game) to Carlos Gonzalez, which at the time gave the Rockies a 4-3 lead in the eighth. The Bucs picked up Watson though and helped him get credit for the win as Joel Hanrahan nailed down a save with a 1-2-3 inning in the ninth.

The offense looked pretty solid for the Bucs tonight. They scored five runs on eleven hits and the hero of the night was easily Clint Barmes. Barmes went 3-3 with two doubles and a solo homerun. The homerun came in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game up after Watson blew it earlier in the inning. Casey McGehee had the go ahead single in the eighth as well. Andrew McCutchen had a big two run double in the seventh inning which gave the Pirates a 3-2 lead at the time and Alex Presley and Jose Tabata each picked up two hits.

It was a great all around team win for the Pirates tonight and nice to see Clint Barmes be the hero. Hopefully he can continue to hit like he did tonight and not struggle at the plate like he the whole season so far. The Pirates play a double header tomorrow and look to win both and get their record back to .500.
