Pence/Victorino vs. Snider/Sanchez Volume 1

Pirates management took a lot of heat after the trade deadline for not going out and acquiring a proven bat. They didn't take any heat from me or some of the smarter fans/writers out there, but there was definitely a lot of contempt from the masses out there. The two names that some people wanted the Pirates to get were Hunter Pence and Shane Victorino. Instead of giving up a bunch to get one of those guys, they preserved the future and brought in Travis Snider and Gaby Sanchez, who have many more years of team control and some good upside.

So let's start the comparisons here. Here's what all four players have done since being traded. Obviously you can't say that Victorino and Pence would have done the same things in a different situation, and I'm not trying to use this to justify anything, but it's interesting to see anyway. So here you go:

Victorino: 5 G, 21 AB, 4 H, 2B, 0 RBI, SB, .190 BA, .227 OBP, .238 SLG
Pence: 6 G, 26 AB, 4 H, 3 2B, 5 RBI, SB, .154 BA, .179 OBP, .269 SLG
Snider: 6 G, 16 AB, 4 H, 2 RBI, SB, .250 BA, .316 OBP, .250 SLG
Sanchez: 5 G, 13 AB, 4 H, RBI, .308 BA, .357 OBP, .308 SLG

None of these guys are doing really well, but it's safe to say that the Pirates have the two better performs to this point. Pence's 5 RBI has helped the team but he has just four singles in 26 at-bats. Victorino has done basically nothing for the Dodgers.

Once again I'll say that this doesn't prove anybody was right or anybody was wrong (what proves that is that Snider and Sanchez will still be wearing Pirates uniforms next year and we still have Starling Marte and the rest of our prospects in the system), but we'll keep an eye on the numbers anyway.
