Erik Bedard had a fantastic outing for the Pirates tonight, resulting in them winning the first game of this eleven game home stand. Bedard pitched seven innings and let up only two hits. He set down seventeen straight at one point and only threw 84 pitches. Bedard has pitched very well at PNC Park this year, with a home ERA of 2.84. Jason Grilli threw a perfect eighth and Chad Qualls was able to preserve the shut out by pitching a perfect ninth.

Andrew McCutchen had a bloop single to lead off the bottom of the fourth and was able to advance to third on errors by Chris Young and Willie Bloomquist. He would later score on a Gaby Sanchez ground out, who picked up his first RBI as a Pirate on the play. Neil Walker and Travis Snider had RBIs in the eighth and Rod Barajas contributed a sacrifice fly of his own. Starling Marte, Gaby Sanchez, and Travis Snider, who were all making their PNC Park debuts, combined to go 4 for 8 with two RBIs.

A shutout is always an awesome thing to see and the Pirates will play game two of this four game series tomorrow night at 7:05.
