9/18 Recap | Cardinals 5 Pirates 4

The Pirates left ten men on base and dropped the second game of the series to the Cardinals by a single run.

Andrew McCutchen went 0/5 and left six men on base. The star of the game for the Bucs was Jordy Mercer who had two hits and two RBI. Starling Marte also had a hit and a run, but left the game with pain in his side, he is due to have an x-ray after the game.

Erik Bedard started and gave up five runs in 4.2 innings. He was hit around pretty good as St. Louis knocked out nine hits on him. Jared Hughes got back to form pitching 2.1 scoreless innings. Juan Cruz pitched a scoreless inning with a strikeout.

In the ninth inning, the Pirates loaded the bases with none out. They scored one on a McCutchen groundout but then a Garrett Jones strike out and a Josh Harrison ground out ended the game and stranded the tying run on third. Big game tomorrow as the Pirates look to take the series from the Cardinals.
