8/17 Recap | Pirates 2 Cardinals 1

The Pirates got a big win over the Cardinals on Friday night by the encouraging score of 2-1.

The score alone tells you that James McDonald had a pretty good night. He went six innings and held the Cardinals scoreless while throwing 87 pitches. He struck out seven and walked three while giving up only two hits. Chris Resop gave up a run in 0.2 innings and Juan Cruz cleaned up the seventh before Jason Grilli and Joel Hanrahan closed out the game.

No Pirate recorded an RBI in the game. They got their only runs of the game on a wild pitch and a passed ball after they loaded the bases by getting a walk from Travis Snider and singles from Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones. It was the first time since 2008 that the Pirates won a game in which they didn't register an RBI.

Really nice to start another win streak here, especially considering they're facing the Cardinals who were just a game behind them in the standings before this win.

Game two tomorrow. That's obvious, right?
