A West Virginia | West Virginia 9 Greensboro 6
Zack Von Rosenberg turned in another outing that looked like his 2011 substandard self, but the Power came back strong with three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to come back and topple Greensboro. Already down 1-0, Von Rosenberg gave up four runs in the top of the fourth and didn't make it out of the frame before getting replaced by Orlando Castro. Von Rosenberg's latest debacle sported a line of 3.1 innings, five runs, five hits, three walks and just one strikeout. Von Rosenberg's ERA now stands at 5.40 after his third straight disastrous August start. He's given up 16 earned runs over his last three starts, spanning just 11 innings. Castro however picked his teammate up with a solid three-inning performance in relief, and earned his third win of the season when the offense's bats backed him. Castro didn't allow a run, gave up just one hit and walked two while striking out four. The Power pounded 12 hits despite still playing without their two best players, Gregory Polanco and Alen Hanson. Eric Avila and Francisco Diaz picked up the slack toward the bottom of the order, combining for five hits and seven RBIs on the day. Avila went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in, and Diaz, the backup catcher, finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Chris Lashmet lashed two hits, and Ashley Ponce and Dan Gamache connected on doubles as their only hits. Gamache's double was his 34th of the year, and is now hitting .293 on the season thanks to a .395 average and 1176 OPS in his last 10 games.
