8/8 Recap | Pirates 7 Diamondbacks 6

The Pirates bounced back from an ugly loss on Tuesday with a somewhat ugly win on Wednesday. The four errors weren’t encouraging, but they hit the ball well and put up enough runs to win.

Starling Marte homered for the second straight game and Jordy Mercer hit his first home run of his young major league career (that proved to be the game winner). Travis Snider kept rolling with a two hit night and Garrett Jones and Andrew McCutchen joined the party with two and one hits respectively. Despite all of that, Neil Walker was the story with a three run homer in the first and a two run double in the fifth. That makes five RBI on the night for Walker, he has 65 on the year now.

Kevin Correia may have been a bigger story then all of the above. He went six innings and gave up four runs (three earned) while striking out five on the night despite not having made a start in over ten days. He got the win and extended his win streak to six. Chris Resop and Tony Watson pitched the seventh and gave up one unearned run, Chad Qualls gave up his first Pirate run in the eighth but got the ball to Joel Hanrahan who closed it out with three straight strikeouts.

Great win for the Bucs who go for the series win tomorrow at 4:05.
