8/12 Recap | Pirates 11 Padres 5

Nine Pirates crossed home plate in the fourth inning and the Pirates got another comeback win and relaxed the worried Pirate fans by salvaging the third game against the Padres.

Clint Barmes hit a grand slam in the fourth, which was the highlight of the game, if not one of the highlights of the season to this point. Starling Marte was the only Pirate starter to not score a run. Neil Walker was five for five with a double and his 14th homer of the year. Andrew McCutchen added two hits and two RBI, and the team had fourteen hits combined.

Erik Bedard got off to a really bad start giving up five runs in the first two innings but battled through five to earn the victory and help the bullpen a bit. Chris Resop, Chad Qualls, Juan Cruz, and Joel Hanrahan all pitched scoreless innings, Cruz was the only one to allow a hit.

Good win. The Pirates play four games with the Dodgers at home starting tomorrow. They currently sit at 3-4 on this home stand so a series win against their wild card competitors would be a big boost.
