McCutchen to Participate in the Home Run Derby

Wild news breaking. Andrew McCutchen is going to replace Giancarlo Stanton in the home run derby on Monday night.

Yeah, I'm surprised too. Cutch doesn't really fit the home run derby mold. He also seems to be the kind of guy that could have the derby mess up his swing a bit. Josh Hamilton said no thanks to the derby this year because he thought it might mess with his swing, and Albert Pujols has done the same in the past. There is a legitimate concern about what the derby can do to a guy, and I can't say I'm very excited to hear that McCutchen has been named. Apparently he's not worried, nor is Clint Hurdle (I'm assuming he has some say in the matter). It'll be very interesting to see what Hurdle and Cutch have to say tomorrow before the game.

Andrew is an incredible baseball player and an even better athlete. The chances of this affecting him are small, but I still don't see why you'd take the risk. The good news is that one of the best players in the game will get a national spotlight.

It's hard to like his chances of winning just because of his build. It's tough for a guy like that not to wear down as the derby goes on. He's going to have to be careful. One things for sure, it'll sure be fun to watch.
