7/8 Recap | Pirates 13 Giants 2

You couldn’t have scripted a much better way for the Pirates to finish their first half of the season. They scored in every inning but the second and blew out the Giants to win another series and get themselves to eleven games over .500 and in sole possession of first place at the break.

A.J. Burnett bounced back from a poor start with 6.1 strong innings. He gave up four hits and allowed two runs while walking two and striking out five. Brad Lincoln did the rest of the work pitching 2.2 hitless innings.

Neil Walker had his best game of the year, going 5-for-5 with a homer and a double. Andrew McCutchen also finished up his first half in style with three hits and two homers. He goes into the all-star break with 18 home runs and a .362 batting average. There isn’t a better play in the game right now. Casey McGehee had three hits of his own and he’s hitting .252 now and has been very good since June started.

Seventeen hits total for the Pirates and thirteen runs. Quite a way to wrap up a magical first half.
