A West Virginia | Game 1: West Virginia 8 Rome 4, Game 2: West Virginia 2 Rome 8
Game 1:

Without heavy contributions from you know who, Alen Hanson and Gregory Polanco, the Power put a crazy crooked number of six runs up on the board in the first inning. Five walks and three base hits was the catalyst for the offensive outbreak in the top of first. Obviously those six runs right off the bat put the Power in a commanding lead from then on out and hypothetically put themselves in cruise control. Zack Von Rosenberg took the bump for the start and pitched two innings of one-run ball on three hits and one walk striking out three. Zach Fuesser came in and threw an outstanding five innings of long relief giving up only one run on four hits and no walks striking out six. Clario Perez threw one inning and allowed two runs while Nathan Kilcrease pitched a scoreless ninth. Willy Garcia, Jose Osuna, and Elias Diaz had two hits apiece as most of the offense found their was to chip in offensively tonight. Willy Garcia is now 5-for-11 at the plate in his last three games. The only guys without hits tonight were Alen Hanson, Francisco Aponte, and Chris Lashmet.

Game 2:

As was the case in Game 1 where the Power capitalized on their opportunities with men on base, Game 2 was the complete opposite. This was in a game that ended abruptly after seven innings, too. They left 11 men on base as they scattered 11 base hits on the night coupled with two walks. Add another shaky start to what has been a relatively rough season for Nick Kingham on the mound and you have a recipe for a loss. Kingham has allowed five, six, and five earned runs his past three starts which has launched his ERA to 5.68 on the season. This comes after he had a stretch of four starts from early to mid June where he did not allow more that three earned runs in a start. Tonight he allowed five runs on five hits (including two longballs) and one free pass striking out six guys while earning his seventh loss. Along with his teammate Kingham, Vince Payne struggled mightily in only one inning as he gave up three runs on three hits; with two of the hits via the longball. Jose Osuna had a great night at the plate as he went 3-for-4 with a double and is now 7 for his last 15 in the past three games. Taylor Lewis put his average at .329 on the season going 2-for-3 while Alen Hanson continued his 2 for his last 10 "dry spell" with a 1-for-4 night.

A Bradenton | Bradenton 5 Brevard County 2
Bradenton overcame a 2-1 deficit with a run in the seventh inning and three runs in the eighth on a triple, an error, and three consecutive singles to outlast Brevard County. Dan Grovatt hit the triple, his third of the season, and Mel Rojas kept the inning alive by reaching on an error by the first baseman that scored Grovatt. Alex Dickerson, Carlos Paulino and Justin Howard all followed with singles that finished the scoring. Dickerson, Paulino and Howard all finished with two hits, and Dickerson added his 19th double of the season. The Marauders stole four bases on the evening, and two came from the usually slow-footed Howard. The late-inning outburst bailed Colton Cain out of a loss even though he pitched well for the fifth straight start. Cain lasted six innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out three. During his last five starts, Cain's given up only six runs over 30 innings with nine walks and 19 strikeouts to lower his ERA on the season to 4.19. Justin Townsend earned the victory by pitching two shutout innings. His ERA is down to 2.86 although his strikeout rate has decreased significantly this year to 32 in 50.1 innings.

A State College | State College 3 Staten Island 2
The Spikes stymied an early two runs by the Yankees with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third. The top of the order was the cog to the Spikes offensive machine on the night. A hit by Jodaneli Carvajal got the rally going as Ryan Hornback, Barrett Barnes, and D.J. Crumlich followed him by racking up three more base-hits in a row. From then on out, the trio of Joely Rodriguez, 2012 Fifth Round pick Adrian Sampson, and Kyle Hanes held the Yankees offense to no runs. Carvajal and Barnes both finished the night 1-for-4 while Hornback put together a 2-4 night at the dish. D.J. Crumlich continued his outstanding season (now sitting at a .328 average) at the plate with a 3-for-4 night. This included a game-tying base hit in the third and a big double in the fifth that later helped the Spikes put their third run on the board. Joely Rodriguez's night lasted five innings as he allowed two runs on four hits and stuck out three and notched his second victory. Adrian Sampson came in and threw three innings of shutout ball while striking out three. Then, Kyle Haynes came in to mop up his second save of the season with a flawless ninth.
