5/18 Recap | Tigers 6 Pirates 0

Justin Verlander was two outs away from a no hitter against the Pirates tonight. Every Pirate fan had to have been worried that Verlander was going to do it, because we obviously know he has been in that kind of situation before. With one out in the ninth inning, Josh Harrison, who played DH for the Pirates singled up the middle to end Verlander's threat and a huge sigh of relief had to have been let out by just about every Bucco fan there is. It was the only hit the Pirates would get all night. Verlander finished the game striking out twelve Pirates.

Charlie Morton started for the Pirates on the pitching side of the ball. He pitched six innings, allowed four runs on nine hits and suffered the loss, dropping his record to 2-4. Chris Resop allowed the other two runs and Brad Lincoln threw a scoreless inning out of the bullpen.

The worst possible thing to happen to your team almost happened tonight and everyone should be happy for Josh Harrison for breaking up the no hitter, who continues to swing a hot bat. Game two is at 4:05 tomorrow in Detroit.
