5/13 Recap | Pirates 3 Astros 2

Mothers Day at PNC Park came to a dramatic end today with a walk off single by Josh Harrison.

AJ Burnett started the game for the Pirates and pitched eight strong innings. Burnett allowed two runs on six hits while striking out four. Jason Grilli pitched the ninth and picked up a one-two-three inning highlighted by a fantastic unassisted double play by Casey McGehee. Joel Hanrahan, Juan Cruz, and Tony Watson all pitched scoreless innings, with Watson getting the victory.

The offense got off to a nice start today, but was silenced after the first inning. Neil Walker and Andrew McCutchen had back to back doubles in the first, leading to their first run. The Pirates had only one baserunner from the second to eighth inning but were able to tie the game up and hand Brett Myers his first blown save of the season, in the bottom of the ninth. Jose Tabata lead off with a walk and was moved over to third when Neil Walker followed him up with a double. Andrew McCutchen was intentionally walked which lead to Pedro Alvarez hitting a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Nate McLouth and Alex Presley were brought in to pinch hit for Casey McGehee and Yamaico Navarro but both failed to drive in the game winning run. Rod Barajas lead off the tenth with a single but the Bucs failed to bring the winning run in. The Pirates were able to win it in the bottom of the twelfth as Clint Barmes doubled with two outs and Harrison drove him in for the win.

It was a "fun" game to watch this afternoon if you want to call it that. The late inning drama is always nice to see and Rod Barajas and Clint Barmes each spent time at first base which was the first time since 2008 for Barajas and first time ever for Barmes. The Pirates finished the homestand with a 5-4 record and head to Miami tomorrow as Brad Lincoln is set to make his first start of the season.
