The Pittsburgh Pirates have not had a winning season since 1992, that’s 19 consecutive sub-.500 seasons for the Bucs. As painful as that is for Pirate faithful to hear, there is still hope. Pittsburgh is home to one of the best young players in the game, Andrew McCutchen. He came up in 2009 and has been fantastic ever since. Management has been having a tough time putting a winning team on the field the last few years, so they have taken a new approach. McCutchen has been so good on the field, that the guys making the roster decisions have began going after all players with similar last names as him, just to see if they can replicate that success. Since McCutchen’s call-up, the Pirates have brought in James McDonald, Michael McKenry, Nate McLouth, and Casey McGehee into Pittsburgh to help Andrew’s McCause. They have also promoted Daniel McCutchen to the big league level. The Pirates have tried a lot of different things over the last 19 years to change their fortunes, and they think that they might just be onto something with all these McPlayers on the roster. Only time will tell how many McWins the Pirates McBunch can get them.
