3/6 Recap | Pirates 7 Yankees 4

The Pirates had another huge offensive game Tuesday afternoon collecting 16 hits against the New York Yankees. Yamaico Navarro led the way with three hits including a two RBI double in the 8th, getting his early spring average up to .500 (5/10). Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte, and Clint Barmes all added two hits of their own.

On the other side of the ball, Kevin Correia pitched put up two zeroes and didn’t give up a hit to some of the Yankees biggest bats. He walked two batters without recording a strikeout. The bullpen did a fantastic job. Chris Resop and Doug Slaten gave up single runs, and Daniel McCutchen gave up two unearned runs in the 9th (after an ugly Jake Fox error), while Ryota Igarashi, Juan Cruz, and Chris Leroux pitched scoreless innings.

The Pirates now have 46 hits in their four spring training games, and that’s after getting just three hits in the first game. While you can’t read into these spring training games, it’s certainly nice to see the Pirates racking up the hits early on.
