3/17 Recap | Rays 2 Pirates 1

by Drew Brown

The Pirates fell to the Tampa Bay Rays at Bradenton today 2-1.

Jeff Karstens started the game and looked pretty solid, pitching five innings, giving up three hits, and only one run, on a solo homerun to Luke Scott. Unfortunately, Karstens got charged with the loss due to the lack of offense. Joel Hanrahan pitched the sixth and gave up the only other run and Ryota Igarashi and Jason Grilli both had scoreless outings.

Like I said the offense struggled today, with the exception of Andrew McCutchen's solo homerun in the sixth inning off of James Shields. Starling Marte, Nate McLouth, Neil Walker, Clint Barmes, and Josh Harrison had the other hits for the Pirates.

The Pirates record stands at 6-8 and they face the the Minnesota Twins tomorrow 1:05.
