Clint Hurdle spoke briefly on Pedro Alvarez's situation today. There wasn't anything surprising said, but one quote stood out to me. Hurdle said that there was a big concern about promoting Pedro to the big leagues before he's ready... again. Yes, he used the word "again". Who knows if he really thinks that his promotion last year was premature, he wasn't here and had nothing to do with it, but it was an interesting word choice.
Also, Hurdle said they "unplugged the timeline" from Pedro to alleviate some of the pressure that he's facing about getting back to the big leagues. They want him to focus on both the physical and mental side of the game and be fully ready before he is promoted. There is nothing wrong with the way Pedro has been preparing, Hurdle says he just needs to trust his preparation and have confidence in the work he has put in, and then he will start seeing results on the field.
He did not mention any time table on when he could return, they are just consistently encouraging him to trust in the rehab he's been doing and they believe he'll make an impact on the big league club this year.
