First Half Home Run Log

In honor of tonight's home run derby, I am updating the "Mc" Effect home run log. The following chart shows all the Pirates 2011 home runs, what inning they were hit in and how many runners were on base when they were hit.

The Pirates have 59 home runs this year. That is good for 23rd in all of baseball and 5th in the National League Central. No surprises to see this offense near the bottom of this list, but really good to see them competitive without the threat of the long ball. Let's get to the data (click the image for a better look):

Andrew McCutchen leads the way with 14 bombs, with only 1 coming with more than 1 runner on base. He has been crushing every ball that comes near the strike zone lately. Neil Walker has been the most efficient with his taters, having 3 2-run bombs, a 3-run homer, and the grand slam he hit on Opening Day. Garrett Jones continues to struggle to hit the ball out of the park with runners on base, as all but 2 of his homers have come with the bases empty. Michael McKenry and Alex Presley are newcomers to the log, as they both homered once in the last 2 weeks.

I say this every time I post this, but the addition of Pedro Alvarez back onto the 25-man roster will should help the Pirates home run totals a lot. We aren't clear on when he'll be back in Pittsburgh, but we know that it won't be until at least July 17th. I would expect him back up shortly after that date, let's just hope he has found his swing again when he does come back.

So there you have it, the 2011 first half home run log. Where else do you get this stuff?
