Even In June | Pirates 3 Diamondbacks 2

I don't have enough time to write a full recap, but you can get those pretty much anywhere, so I don't feel about making this quick.

The Pittsburgh Pirates won some kind of ballgame tonight. I was in the press box taking it all in and let me say I couldn't have chosen a better game to see.

The Pirates started off well, scoring a run in the first, and Paul Maholm put up six zeroes before being pulled. Chris Resop breezed through the 7th, but Jose Veras hiccuped and gave up a run after allowing a lead off walk, which tied the game. Tony Watson came in after him with 2 on and 1 out and struck the next two hitters out to start his big league career off with a K/9 of 27. Joel Hanrahan breezed through the 9th and with the Pirates offense pulling another vanishing act, the game headed into extra ininngs.

Danny Moskos gave up a run in the 10th and Pirate fans were depressed. However, Andrew McCutchen doubled and Neil Walker singled in the bottom of the inning to tie it up again. Daniel McCutchen pulled a houdini and got out of a first and third with nobody out jam, using a strikeout and 3-6-3 double play to keep the Pirates tied, and then pitched a much less intense 12th inning to set the Pirates up for the walk-off.

Andrew McCutchen hit one of the cheapest home runs you can hit in PNC Park, wrapping one around the left field foul poll to send the fans home happy.

When all was said and done, Paul Maholm pitched great, Zach Duke pulled a Zach Duke against his former team (1 run on a ridiculous 9 scattered hits), and the Pirates battled til the end to get an incredible victory.

Oh and look, the Pirates are 30-30. That's pretty neat.

Going for the sweep and the winning record tomorrow night at 7:05, be there or be... somewhere else (wherever you are, keep reading The "Mc" Effect).
