Pirates Starters First Five

The Pittsburgh Pirates have played 5 games, which means that all of their starters have seen action. Here's a quick look at how the starters have performed in their first starts of the year:

Kevin Correia: 6 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
Paul Maholm: 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Ross Ohlendorf: 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 K, 1 HR
Charlie Morton: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 2 K
James McDonald: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K

As a group Pirates pitchers are allowing 5.4 hits per start, 2 runs per start, 1.8 earned runs per start, 3.2 walks per start, 3 strikeouts per start, 0.2 home runs allowed per start, and have a collective earned run average of 2.76.

All-in-all that is an amazing start to the season for this group. The only pitcher to not go 6 innings was McDonald, who had missed some time with injury and really wasn't in the swing of things yet. Not one starter has suffered a loss. I think any team would take a 2.76 ERA from their starters, especially a team like the Pirates. Of course, it's very doubtful that this trend will keep up very long, but it's nice to see them start the season fast.

Here's hoping the first week wasn't a fluke. Let's go Bucs.
