Pirates Face Arch Nemesis Jorge De La Rosa

The Pittsburgh Pirates headed into the 2010-2011 offseason with one thing on their mind - upgrading the starting pitching. They had the worst ERA in baseball during the 2010 season and they did not want to see that replicated. One of their biggest targets during the winter months was Jorge de la Rosa, a free agent pitcher from the Colorado Rockies.

It was obvious from the beginning that Pittsburgh wasn't a very attractive destination for any free agent, and De La Rosa certainly was not an exception. The Pirates made him a pretty competitive offer, but the left hander eventually decided to return to Colorado to the tune of 31.5$ million over 3 years.
31.5 million dollars is a lot of money. It would probably not have been in the Pirates best interest to drop that much cash on a largely average big league starter. There's no doubt he would be one of the Pirates pitchers, but the impact probably would not have been big enough to warrant that much money. Regardless, I still have a personal vendetta against the man.

De La Rosa is 3-2 with 4.06 ERA lifetime against the Pirates and will face Ross Ohlendorf tonight. I'm hoping the Pirates put up so many runs on him that he wishes he would have came to Pittsburgh, and then straight up retires right there on the spot.

The game's at 7:05, gameday post coming up in a few hours. Let's Go Bucs.
