  • The Pirates kept their bats smoking hot last night with an impressive 11-2 win over the Astros. Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones collected four his each, Casey McGehee had three, and Neil Walker had two with a homer and three RBI. It was a special night at the ballpark as the Pirates got back to seven games over .500. Here's the recap.
  • The Reds scored a bunch of runs late and beat the Dodgers 8-2, retaining their one game lead in the N.L. Central. The Cardinals also won, staying just a game and a half behind the Pirates.
  • There was an interesting post by Ken Rosenthal about the Pirates and Zack Greinke and Cole Hamels. He thinks they should trade for one of them; I personally don't think that's feasible. Here's the article and my response to it.
  • Jameson Taillon and Gerrit Cole both had big nights on Monday as well. Gerrit Cole threw 5.2 innings giving up just one unearned run and striking out five. Taillon threw seven scoreless innings surrendering just two hits and striking out a pair. The rest of the minor league roundup can be found here.
  • Game two with the Astros is tonight at 7:05 as the Bucs try to wrap up at least a series split and extend their record to eight games over .500. The pitching matchup is A.J. Burnett against Lucas Harrell.
  • Dejan Kovacevic has it on good authority that the Pirates will be bringing up Starling Marte "soon". Read below for more
