7/4 Recap | Pirates 6 Astros 4

The Pirates kept on rolling on Independence Day with a 6-4 win over the Houston Astros. They got off to a bit of a slow start as Kevin Correia gave up two runs in the top of the second, but they would score three in the bottom half of that inning to put them ahead for good. After a Casey McGehee walk, Garrett Jones doubled and Pedro Alvarez walked to bring up Michael McKenry, who would hit a sacrifice fly. Clint Barmes brought in a run with a single in the next at bat and would score another one as he got himself into a run down between first and second that he stayed in long enough for Alvarez to score.

The Pirates would add another run in the fourth with a McKenry douule that scored Jones, and they’d get two more runs in the seventh on an Alvarez single that scored Neil Walker and Andrew McCutchen.

Correia had another Correia type start. He got into trouble early but battled and kept his team ahead. He left the game after six innings, allowing three runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out one. Brad Lincoln pitched a scoreless seventh, Jason Grilli a scoreless eighth, and Joel Hanrahan avenged his blown save from Wednesday night with his 21st save of the year, despite giving up a home run to start the inning.

Great team win for the Bucs who go for the four game sweep tomorrow night.
