7/2 Recap | Pirates 11 Astros 2

The Pirates had another impressive offensive performance on Monday night. The scoring got started a bit later as Garrett Jones popped the cap in the fourth inning with a two run homer off the foul pole. The very next batter, Neil Walker, did the same thing, homering off the foul pole to push the lead to 3-1. Casey McGehee would follow that with a double and score on a Clint Barmes single. All of that happened without anybody recording an out.

The next inning was very similar to the last. Drew Sutton hit a lead off triple, Andrew McCutchen doubled, Jones doubled, and McGehee would double in two runs later in the inning. The Pirates weren’t done there though, adding another run in the sixth on a Jones based loaded infield hit.

At the end of the day, McCutchen and Jones had four hits each, and McGehee added three of his own. Walker had two hits and three RBI, and Alex Presley and Sutton had two hit games, and the Pirates collected 18 hits total.

On the mound, James McDonald did a nice job. He struggled in the first inning giving up a run and throwing over 20 pitches, but he settled down for the most part afterwards. He ended his night after pitching seven innings and giving up just two runs. He struck out four and walked a season high five.
