One of the more exciting games this season came to an end on the shoulders of Drew Sutton. AJ Burnett's outstanding streak came to an end and he had one of his worst starts of the year, pitching only 5 innings and allowing six runs on a dozen hits. Chris Resop, Juan Cruz, and Jason Grilli all had very good outings out of the bullpen and Joel Hanrahan blew his third save of the season in the top of the ninth, but was later credited with the victory after Drew Sutton hit a walk off home run.
After being down 6-2 at one point, the Pirates stormed all the way back to take a 7-6 lead, on big hits from Pedro Alvarez, Andrew McCutchen, and Garrett Jones. McCutchen had a two run home run which added onto his potential MVP season and Pedro had one of his most impressive at bats of the year, as he drove in two runners on a 3-2 pitch which cut the lead to only one. Garrett Jones hit an absolute blast in the bottom of the seventh, a two run shot, giving the Pirates the lead. The ball was extremely close to landing in the Allegheny River and it was one of GI's bigger homers of the year. After Hanrahan blew a save, Drew Sutton bailed him out on a solo walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth, which gave the Pirates their sixth walk off of the year, already matching their total from last year.
The Pirates look to win this four game series with a victory tomorrow on a game that starts at 1:35. Truly one of the more exciting games at PNC Park which was capped off by the new guy Drew Sutton. Welcome to the Pirates, Drew Sutton.
