The Pirates dropped game one of the series against the Cincinnati Reds 6-1. Kevin Correia pitched seven innings but got the loss, and he was knocked around for five runs on nine hits. He allowed home runs to Zack Cozart and Drew Stubbs and Chris Resop allowed a home run to Jay Bruce. Resop pitched two innings and was the only other pitcher the Pirates used. Johnny Cueto pitched a complete game for the Reds on the other end, striking out four.
The offense tonight only managed to get one run on seven hits. Pedro Alvarez drove in his 15th run of the year on a sacrifice fly but that was the only offense the Pirates would see. Andrew McCutchen did not play tonight and Nate McLouth was able to provide two hits while hitting in the three hole. The other hits went to Garrett Jones, Clint Barmes, Pedro Alvarez, Neil Walker, and Kevin Correia.
Game two of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05 PM.
