5/9 Recap | Pirates 4 Nationals 2

Two in a row! The Pirates held off the Nationals for a 4-2 win to move to 14-16 on the season.
Tonight was all about the bullpen. Erik Bedard made the start but was pulled in the second inning due to back spasms. All signs point to him being fine and making his next start as scheduled. After that, Brad Lincoln pitched three innings giving up just one unearned run, and then Jared Hughes, Juan Cruz, Jason Grilli, and Joel Hanrahan finished it off for the Bucs.

The offense came mainly from Andrew McCutchen, who was four for four with three singles and a home run. Neil Walker also knocked in a run. Casey McGehee was credited with an RBI on an infield groundball that McCutchen scored from second on. He got some help from an indecisive Ian Desmond, but speed kills and it got the Pirates an extra run tonight.

Nice win for the Pirates, who will go for the sweep tomorrow night against these same Nationals. It’s Kevin Correia against Stephen Strasburg.
