The story was Stephen Strasburg, who struck out 13 Pirates in six innings of work. He allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits. Strasburg also had three walks (back-to-back-to-back walks at that).
Andrew McCutchen drove in Jose Tabata, who had a two hit night, for the first run of the ballgame. McCutchen went to second on a foolish throw from Bryce Harper and later scored on a Neil Walker single.
Kevin Correia kept the Nationals off the board until the 6th inning when everything got out of hand. He gave up two home runs in the inning and the Pirates couldn’t score again to get him off the hook. Correia’s final line was seven innings, six hits, three runs, two walks, and a strikeout. Chris Resop gave up another run in the top of the 9th as Rick Ankiel took him deep to right field.
All-in-all a good series for the Pirates. They’re 3-3 on this home stand and will look to win a series against the Houston Astros this weekend.
