- First and foremost, happy Easter everyone.
- The Pirates got their first win of the season last night in dramatic fashion. Alex Presley had a game winning walk off infield single. Jeff Karstens pitched a great game and the bullpen did their part as well. The recap is here.
- It was interesting that the Pirates went with Tabata in the leadoff spot with Presley batting second last night with the lefty on the hill. I'm interested to see what they do with those two in the next handful of games. I would expect the team to decide on an every day lead-off hitter eventually, but they might play the pitching match ups as well.
- Another lineup note ist hat Pedro Alvarez didn't play last night. I would expect him to get some starts against left-handed pitchers, but him sitting against southpaws isn't going to be uncommon this year. They really need to get him at-bats and continue to inject confidence into him, so I would expect him to start a lot in the next few series regardless of who the pitcher is.
- So far the Pirates have pitched 19 innings and given up just two runs. Also, they have allowed just one extra base hit.
- Everybody in the division now has at least one loss. The Cardinals are 2-1 and the Cubs are 0-2 while everyone else is at 1-1. Should be a tight race all season long.
- James McDonald takes the ball trying to keep up the hot start for the rotation today against Vance Worley.
