3/5 Recap | Bucs Bring the Bats, Pirates 10 Orioles 3

10 runs, 18 hits. The Pirates absolutely wrecked the Baltimore Orioles under the lights, scoring in each of the first five innings. Alex Presley, Matt Hague, and Starling Marte had three hits a piece. Yamaico Navarro and Quincy Latimore had two, and Robbie Grossman, Josh Harrison, Eric Fryer, Garrett Jones, and Tony Sanchez all added hits of their own. Hague was the biggest bird killer with a 2-run home run in the third inning. Presley and Latimore also had triples.

The one dud on offense was the guy you didn't want to see a dud from the most, Pedro Alvarez. He was 0/3 with two ugly strikeouts and a sharp ground out to second. We've only seen five at-bats from the guy, but he sure doesn't look real comfortable up there.

On the other side of the ball, Jo-Jo Reyes made the start and gave up an unearned run in the first and gave up in two quick hits in the second before getting yanked before recording the third out. Overall he didn't look terrible, but we didn't get to see much. Justin Wilson was extremely impressive with two scoreless innings including three strikeouts. He was hitting the mid-90's with his fastball, which is going to get a lot of outs as a lefty. Duke Welker gave up 2 unearned runs, but Jared Hughes, Bryan Morris, Michael Crotta, and Tim Wood all pitched scoreless innings.

The Pirates had a lot of trouble with routine fly balls tonight. Starling Marte made one of the worst errors you'll see in the second inning, and made a couple other easy catches look difficult. Robbie Grossman also had a tough time out there at least once, there was no wind either which makes that kind of strange.

It was a solid win for the Pirates, and it wasn't against a minor league team either. The Orioles had mainly big leaguers out there at the beginning of the game, so this was a nice way for the team to get their first meaningless win of the spring.
