Andrew McCutchen was out of the lineup once again, and the Reds didn’t give Pedro Alvarez anything to hit, which is all the pieces you need to add up to a horrible Pirates offensive performance. Morton was bad once again giving up seven hits in six innings and walking two. The thing that killed him was the two home runs he gave up to Todd Frazier and Drew Stubbs. Both were crushed.
The hits went to Jose Tabata, Neil Walker, and Nate McLouth. Clint Barmes kept up his miserable offensive season with three strikeouts in three at bats. Michael McKenry did his best to silence the believers going 0/4 with three strikeouts of his own.
This was a series that would have been very nice to win, but the Pirates only showed up for one of the games and they fell to 12-16. They start another three game set with the red hot Washington Nationals on Tuesday.
